Overview

UnderstandDocs analyzes pasted text and uploaded documents to generate summaries and structured insights.

Supported formats: TXTDOCXPDFPASTED_TEXT

For supported formats, text extraction is performed locally in your browser whenever possible. Raw files are not automatically uploaded as part of the standard extraction flow.

Privacy-First Processing

Before AI analysis, common sensitive values may be automatically detected and masked. This can include identifiers, contact details, and payment or account references.

Masking is applied as a best-effort measure. It is not a guarantee that all sensitive data will be caught.

AI Processing

After extraction and any applicable masking, text may be securely sent to the Anthropic API to generate your results.

No user profile is built from submitted documents. Content is used solely to produce the requested output.

Service Providers

UnderstandDocs uses a small number of service providers to operate:

• Anthropic — processes document text to generate your analysis.
• Upstash — the Redis database that stores rate-limiting data, and for Pro, session and Workspace records.
• Resend — delivers Pro sign-in emails.
• Vercel — hosts the application and provides basic analytics (see Analytics below).

None of these providers receive your original uploaded file — only extracted, and where applicable masked, text, or the specific data described above.

Data Retention

Free analysis does not maintain a saved document library or permanent workspace storage — nothing about the document you submit is kept once your result is returned.

If you sign in to UnderstandDocs Pro and choose to save an analysis to your Workspace, we store the analysis result (summary, key points, risks, and important dates) along with basic file details — filename, file type, file size, and a fingerprint of the file — never the original file or extracted document text. Saved analyses remain in your Workspace until you delete them, individually or all at once.

Limited technical metadata may be logged for abuse prevention and service reliability. This may include request timestamps, hashed or anonymized identifiers, request size, response times, and error categories. Full submitted document text is not logged.

Your hosting provider or infrastructure services may maintain their own operational logs independently of this application.

Pro Sign-In

Signing in uses a one-time link sent to your email via Resend. Your saved Workspace analyses are linked to your account through a one-way hash of your email — the stored analysis itself never contains your email address.

Pro Waitlist

If you join the Pro waitlist, we store the email address you submit so we can notify you when UnderstandDocs Pro launches. This is an explicit, opt-in marketing signup, separate from document analysis — no document content is ever linked to your email.

We do not use your waitlist email for any other purpose, and we do not send document content, summaries, or analysis results by email. Contact us to have your email removed from the waitlist at any time.

Analytics

UnderstandDocs uses privacy-focused analytics tools (such as Vercel Analytics) to understand usage, reliability, and overall performance.

We may collect anonymous usage information such as page interactions, general browser/device information, and technical diagnostics related to site performance and reliability.

UnderstandDocs does not use session replay or screen-recording analytics. No analytics tool used by UnderstandDocs records document text, extracted text, filenames, or analysis results.

Analytics providers may still collect limited technical metadata such as browser type, approximate geographic region, device information, interaction timing, and anonymized usage patterns as part of their platform functionality.

Sensitive Documents

If your document contains highly confidential, legal, financial, medical, or regulated information, exercise caution before submitting it to any AI processing service — including this one.

When in doubt, consider redacting sensitive details manually before analysis.

Accuracy Notice

AI-generated outputs may contain errors, omissions, or incomplete context. Always verify important information independently before making decisions based on results.
